I just bounce 'em on the table. Ring is copper, thud is zinc. It's a really distinctive sound. Looks can sometimes fool me.
The other thing I've learned to do is tell by weight... it's only a little more than half a gram, but once you handle tens of thousands of cents, you'll notice a half gram difference.

For 1982's I made a scale with a ruler and a large straw as a fulcrum. It works great

Get a digital jewelry scale. You can safely weigh 5 or 6 at a time.

never new people were that excited about S mints.. I get 25% of them nice on the cwr richard. I went back and got $25 more in CWR.. did pretty well: 1936 AG-G so smushed I want to beleive its the DDO.. 1942-d 1947-d 1956 1956-d 1957-d 1958-d(2) i forgot to mention, I found a 1911 in that last batch, but its AG |

Thats good info on the 1982s Thanks. Do we know how many were minted in zinc and how many where copper?

I just went trough half way in a box and found = 1934d,40d,40,44,45x2,46,46S,53,70s,71S
Red you 61 and 62d .2 of wheties were houle fillers what a box

Just finished opening up 18 rolls.
5 wheats 1941,1944, 1945 and 2 1956. Many pre 1983. 1962D in ms-65. Also two notable Canadian, 1940 and 1964 ms-63. I also found 12 2009 and 32 2010.
Another thing I noticed there was a lot of heavily corroded coins including a 2009. I have not noticed similar corrosion when opening Canadian cents.

I pick my first box up tomorrow! I've seen it on here before but I dont remember what page, but does anyone know the website for all the different lincoln varietes?
im so pumped to break that first roll open tomorrow when I get outta school.
do you guys still remember the first rolls you ever searched?

Got my box sorted. Seven S's 2-68, 1-69, 2-70, 1-72 and a 74. The 74s went into my second book. A nice 74d went into my #1 album. Six wheaties a 1919 that looks like someone rubbed it on a brick wall and a 19? can't tell it is so worn down, plus
4 commons from 50's.

just opened my 4th box and I think everyone gets more wheats than me. first box had 9 wheats, then 8, then 4, and now 8 wheats. San diego is getting fry of wheats. I do average about 22 s mints per box though.

i have found 2 ways for telling the difference between copper 82 and zinc 1if you can flick it into the air with your thumb and get it to flip copper will make a ringing sound and zinc will only make that sound once hitting the thumb then it will stop for the rest of the rotations 2 I have a whites coinmaster metal detector which tells you wether its a copper or zinc this is the method I always use
