Johnny1328. You are right that there is different standards for grading coins fro different countries. Canadian coins are graded from the obverse which is the side with the KIng or Queen. It becomes easier to grade as different denominations have the same effigy.
When I started collecting coins in the early 70,s I had a dealer tell me the exact same thing that Yves is saying. It always bothered me. I thought that all my MS coins were just AU. This idea is not that uncommon. I also believe that most collectors overgrade their coins. In the Charlton guide book the prices are only fully realized for certified coins. I believe when grading coins to always be conservative and always err to the lower grade when not quite sure.

Like maineman already tell, my first language are french and my english is not perfect, often I'm searching some word.
I will try to explain my vision, I'm not a expert in coin's.
My vision is that a BU cent by exemple mean brillant uncirculated. Uncirculated mean that the coin are never go through circulation and nobody touch them with their hands. The second that someone touch it with hands the BU-60 are now AU-59 ( the number 59 is for the image only) for me you can not find a BU coin's in a circulated roll's because someone hadtouch it at least 1 time, you can only find BU in new roll's at bank or something like that.
Johny : I don't have charlton catalogue sorry. I just have Uni-safe, Charlton are probably better but uni safe are in french and I can enderstand more easyly some part of the text.
Maybe that I'm not right but when I buy a BU coin's I don't want that anybody had touch them before.

Yves,basically, an untouched coin would have to be in cellophane to meet your standards to be BU, but that is not the case.MS or BU refers to the wear and condition of the coin only.We find MS coins in circulation quite often.To get more and better explanations,a new thread should be started in the grading section of the forum.

Hi ! Anybody can have their proper definition, I see some goin's graded VF on ebay and it's about good not more lol I don't thing that I would change mine but your opinion can be better... I don't know Thanks ! |

Yeves. Its not a bad thing to grade your coins lower than they actually are. In fact it is much better than to grade your coins higher and be disappointed when you find they are worth less than you thought. When it comes down to it what is important is that you like the coin you have and you look for the best coin you can find in comparison to other coins of the same year.
But something to think about. I have a 1991 Can Quarter that is certified by ICCS which is the top service for certification in Canada. It is graded as MS-62 and it does show slight wear. It has defiantly been handled but is still an MS grade coin.

HoosierDaddy thanks, I am using a camcorder actually to take my pictues. I have a panasonic HDD camcorder model no. SDR-H40. It does well for me, there are some limatations to it. I cant set the aperture or the shutter speed but I can set the white balance it has for the most part good optics. Also it has 2 different sizes that you can take pictures with, which is great for the coins a more square formate and a more rectangle for mate for bank notes. Also it is easy to take a picture with one hand if need be.

Yves, I agree you can set your own standards,however,when we all look at a standard such as those set by the ANA, then we know what to expect.It is difficult enough to agree using set standards and if we all make up our own, there would never be a concensus. |

Well.... I finished my first bank box of penny's today.... While I was out I picked up a H.E. Harris 1975-Date cent folder to begin a BU folder. I also picked up $5 in penny making my total of rolls gone through to 60! In those 60 rolls I picked out a bunch of BU LMC and a total of 12 LWC and I think 6 S-mint wheaties. My oldest wheatie was a 1937 in F-XF. My BU folder already looks something like this:  Sorry if the image isn't very clear took it with my blackberry. Thanks for looking! I plan on hittin the bank up Monday in anticipation for the ice storm thats supposed to hit this neck of the woods next week! |

Ok guys, I was really hoping that I'd get some beginners luck and pick a WAM out of my first bank roll box. Well I had no so such luck but what is the true likely hood of me finding one here in the show me state? is there a certain region they are more prominent? |
