I bought a box of pennies this morning before leaving after visiting a friend in Chicago over the weekend. Easiest box I ever had to search!
I was hoping to get a 2011D to put in my master set (I only have the 2011 so far). Well, I got one! And 2,499 more!
Haven't even bothered to open the box (it's got the holes in the top).
What do you guys recommend when getting a whole box of new pennies? Keep the whole box as is? Keep a few rolls and sell the rest? Other ideas?
I don't even want to bother opening up a roll to get the one I need (I'll get it in a month or so anyway...)
So, this box totals:
Copper: 0
Wheats: 0
George VI: 0

Bowfin: Forgot to congratulate you on noticing the entire run of 37 through 52 George VI I got! I even got all 3 1948's, and both 1949's. I got 2 of the 3 1947ml varieties as well. The missing 3rd one I got in my next box! I was only a 1962 harp and the 1965 pointed 5's away from a 'master set' in 2 boxes!
I have also found the 1931, 1932, and 1933. So I have work to do on George V still.

Except for the 3rd variety of the CAN 1947ml (pointed 7, high leaf), there was nothing memorable in boxes number 2 through 5 of box searching this past week after getting the 1914D a week and a half ago. Except for getting 10 dimes in one box! (i usually get about 1).
The (averaged) totals from the 4 boxes:
Copper: 25-30% US and CAN (a little higher than lately)
Wheats: 8 per box (a little higher than usual). Nothing older than 1937.
Georges: 3 per box (the usual)
Dimes: 3 per box (thanks to the 10 in one box, much higher than usual)
Then box number 6 (from Chicago) gave me the 25 rolls of 2011D BU's.
Box 7 will have to wait a while...

There's a guy on the Realcent forum who's taken a stab at estimating the numbers of US cents left in circulation. He believe's there are 1(one) 1909S VDB's left in circulation! (It's extremely hypothetical of course. But he HAS been thorough in his logic and application...)
He also estimated there to be 48 (47 now!) 1914D's possibly left in circulation.
I would have bet the farm that nowhere near as many as that are around. But I kinda went and made a liar out of myself.
So, let's hope a 1909S VDB shows up someday!

Im sure there still. Ouple 1909S on the wild and I think more the 1 , last year a rich guy tossed one in new york together with 2 more keys that I dont remember which ones .

Moneypenny...I too picked up a box of solid 2011 cents. I sold 10 rolls for about $6 profit after ebay fees. My daughter opened all tails/tails rolls. She loves to open shotgun rolls. I kept 5 rolls and returned the rest. I did notice that their thickness is two pennies thinner than copper pennies for one roll. I was making $0.52 rolls for somebody and not knowing it. Doh! |

Junk or not there are alot of folks out there waiting for their first IHC. Indians are exciting no matter what the condition. Nice find. |

Got 3 rolls today(yea odd number)
Found a nice 1970 for my Set
and one Wheat, a Nice 1935 for a change...Beats the 50's and 40's I always end up with

Not to sound un-grateful for the find....this is the 4Th IHC found and they are all in this condition..... Edited by Wild Bill

If you really have a problem with them (like how some people feel about any post-1934 or worn Wheat cent), then spend them! Someone will be very excited to get one in their change. |

Knocked out a $50 bag last week. The coppers were great. A nice 32% bag. 1600+ coppers including 20 wheats which were all 40's and 50's except a 1935 and a 1938. 13 canadian coppers were found in that bag, too! The best was a George VI 1946. This was the dirtiest bag I've ever done. Someone dumped coins that either came out of a wishing well or a fountain. There were a handful or two of corroded zincs. Almost looked like raisins. Anyway, I didn't find any goodies in this mess. I looked for all of the favorites. Nada...except for a counterstamped lincoln with the state of Rhode Island.
