my little brother F16 was at work with my father at his collision shop the other day and came across a 1943 Steel penny!
He has been busy with school so he hasn't been on lately, but I figured I would share
The penny isn't even corroded that bad, in fact it is in better shape then the one I gave him for his folder.
My dad told me he was really happy when he found it. He said he ran to the tool box and grabbed a magnet.
He said "it sticks"
and my dad said "what are you playing with a washer over there or something"
haha pretty cool story for the little guy

The counterstamp is the "Signing of the Declaration of Independence". Can't remember the artist who painted it but I'm sure it's on this forum someplace.

Acetone will have no effect on that level of corrosion. In fact, it's useless against verdigris across the board. The only thing acetone will do is dehydrate it which is fine for storage purposes....but it will not remove the corrosion.

I'll take that coin over a common Wheat cent any day of the week. Nice coin.

Wow, I'm so excited. I haven't done cents in a long time because I'm focusing on completing a nickel set from circulation, and the last few boxes of cents I did had like 4 wheats.

So I picked up a box because I missed doing cents. First roll the 3rd coin was a wheat, 1949 s. I was stoked because hopefully I can find some more. However, the same roll had an Indian Head cent! my first ever. Very common 1907, but to find in the year 2011 is awesome!
