Did another $15 in rolls tonight.

I did my first rolls hunt tonight - $5 worth. My bank didn't have any more cents rolls. Finds: 2 wheats - 1951D, one damaged beyond recognition. 96 pre 1982 copper pennies 49 BU 2013-D cents. Not that great mix. But it came out to $5.32 since there were some dimes in the rolls. Interesting discussion with the teller. She told me that someone turned $1K in half dollars rolls.  But, she also said the bank already sent them out.  |

Just guessing here Peacesilver but if someone turned in $1,000 in half dollars it very well might have been someone dumping their unwanted halves while CRHing.

Yesterday I did a box and broke my record for most wheats by just one wheat!  (Previous record was 14). '34 x1 '35 x1 '40 x1 '44-D x1 '44 x1 '45 x1 '46-D x2 '47-D x1 '50 x1 '53-D x1 '53 x1 '55-D x1 '57-D x1 '58 x1 Canadians: 1960, 1966, 1976, 1996 |

I actually found a 1982-S LMC in a Canadian roll! This is probably my strangest find ever... why spend a proof cent?!? It made me wonder if maybe some batch made it into circulation somehow. |

i have never found any penny proofs but have found quite a few quarter and nickel proof...i think a proof penny would stand out a little more than all the others but I'm not sure...its either someone putting some bad proofs into circulation for the fun of it or some kid spending dads collection...could also of been stollen from a collection and the person didnt know what the coins were actually worth and just took them to the bank

 I only noticed it because I often used to set aside my American 1982 coins to weigh them on a popsicle stick and also sort according to date size. It was only on closer inspection I noticed it was an "S" and not a "D"! I've found some strange things, but this takes the cake! Anyway, I carded it and put it in my "conversation" box. FWIW, my oldest and second-rarest (next to the 1982-S) Lincoln found in a Canadian roll is 1916-D. I realize these are from Canadian rolls and illegal in this thread... sorry, but I used to really enjoy the U.S. coins in Canadian rolls and wanted to share. Edited by bibd

not illegal at all haha...it is a Lincoln Cent and cool to find something like that even in a US roll 1916-D is IMO top 25 as far as wheat mintages...possibly top 20....at first when I read your post I thought you said you found a 1916-D canadian penny in a roll and was baffled and had to read it again because I thought they were still minting larger cents during that year...been a long day hah |

Since my last update I've done two more boxes with decent luck.

1997-D that is really yellow.

The 1918 is really worn, I had to use my scope to see the 8. From the small amount of research I've done the 1997-D with the yellow color is a brass penny that is formed from the core and outer layer mixing. I'm not sure if it has much if any value, but it looks neat. I think I have a photo of it compared to a newer red cent and an older brown one so that you can see the contrast. If I get a chance I'll post it along with the pic of the 1918.

Did a box tonight: 1951-S Wheat cent1972 Canadian cent This was the worst box I have ever searched, in terms of keepers. At least the wheatie was an S mint. I'm going to try again with a new box tomorrow though! |
