I just returned my throwback pennies to a TD penny arcade. I had over $85 in pennies which made them change the bags. It was my first time cashing in that much. Is that too much for 1 trip? On the bright side when they opened the machine there was 27 cents that didn't make it all the way down the reject tube so I got that and 2 chuckie cheese tokens.

Searched 2 boxes of $25 pennies. Got about 16 wheat pennies. All of them are common 1940-50s except a 1935D. It is not very exciting.

did my weekly box and came up with 2 canadian, and 14 wheats. The oldest was a 1916d which popped out of the 2nd roll! It is not a hole filler, but it is an upgrade to my existing 1916d. I was pretty pumped to find that one.

The funny thing is that I have no idea how I got the first 1916d. Since I collected as a kid and took a 20+ year break, I forgot how I got everything except for the 5 rolls of 1943 wheats I bought from my neighbor.

I know I used to roll hunt back in the day which accounts for most of my wheats. I am just going to assume that everything in my 2 childhood whitman wheat books were hunted. That is probably not 100% true, as I did go around to antique type places with my mom and I know I bought some coins. But since I can't prove anything, I will just assume I hunted them.

my last 3 boxes had a Canadian 1992, 1967, and 2002 in that order. I guess those would be key or fun dates for Canadian cents? Also the last box had a 1941S hole filler among its wheeat. about 25 wheat total, 30 2009 total, and 20 Canadians total in all 3 boxes. Lots of copper, but I am only keeping the pre-70s since I have a box of 1970's already, and that is enough for me. Oldest wheat was 1926.

The picture is not clear enough.
But it is very likely a 1971-WDDO-001.
Congratulations. What's the grade you think it is?

I am new to CRH. Only searched 2 boxes so far and some rolls at work, found 88 wheats so far. I just wanted to see how many of you have been saving the copper pennies? They must take up a lot of space, what's your opinion? Are they worth saving?

I think they are worth keeping. The Government might let us melt cents soon.

Good take on wheats. Way above average.

I sell the coppers. No need to hoard just yet, but some people do. Don't want to tie up money that can be used to find silver

I wouldn't count on that any time soon. Unless the price of copper drops massively, or unless the government switches to other metals (and add 25+ years to that equation to "ensure" that the only circulating coins are the newer worthless pennies), I don't see it happening. The government doesn't want people to be able to go to a bank, buy $100's worth of cents, melt them, and sell it for $3 a pound.

However, there's not really anything stopping people from melting cents...the zinc has a lower boiling temp than the copper has a melting temp...so, you'd end up with basically pure copper (and a metallurgical analysis of the resulting metal should not be anywhere within range of anyone making a positive identification of cent-origin)...but what do I know?

^ Does anyone know if that's accurate?

It feels bad when you found an old coin and it was abused.
88 wheats for 2 boxes are too good to be true. I usually got 8-10whates every box. Good for you.

I was getting half of every box that was copper, and it was just too much space like you say. A coin is worth saving if YOU want to save it. There is really no one that can tell you what to save or not to save.
