Finding a nickel in a cent roll would be HIGHLY unusual since it's so much bigger. I have never found a nickel in a cent roll yet. In fact, the only off denomination coin I've found are dimes.

Picked up a Loomis box (no holes) and it had 25 mixed rolls and 25 2014-D rolls, so I went back and grabbed a second box which was all mixed. One of the more fun searches in a while. 3750 coins Copper was higher than I've seen lately at around 21% 3 Canadian 98, 00, 06 A good handful of very nice AU 60s and 70s 28 LWC --easily my record (two rolls had 3 each) 41 (2) 42D 44 (2) 44D 44S 45 (2) 45D (2) 46 46D 47D (2) 49S 51D (4) 52 52D (2) 54D 56 56D 57D (2)

Got all excited to see 10 customer rolls... First roll = not even a copper... 10 rolls = 10 1981 and 10 1980 that must have been left in by mistake.... I feel the definition of dumped on.

Sorry to hear that CLS - when that happens, variety hunting becomes the primary focus for me. rd - nice haul! I like it when I stumble on a box with nice LWC returns. Memorable.

As I started to realize the wheats were there I got greedy and wanted to pull a nice/rare one but it was apparent pretty quickly that it was going to be all 40s and 50s. ...then again I haven't had that "once in a lifetime" box yet so I can still look forward to that.

Bad Thad:
years ago (before joining this forum, like maybe 20 years ago or so) I heard of someone finding a gold coin in a penny roll, think it was a quarter eagle. Now that would be something!

So I opened a roll of pennies in my register yesterday and it was all wheat cents. I bought the roll and went through them later that night. Found a very nice 1909 VDB and many in the teens and 20's. Made my day!

Yeah, I cringe a bit when picking up a box. I've been fortunate the last few months. Better luck next time skibs!

I always am scared to peek through the holes in the box to see if they are new pennies when I pick them up... whats the most likely time of year you are to get a box of new coins?
