Rackster Pillar of the Community United States 4809 Posts	Posted 05/24/2018 8:54 pm One of the hazards of living in CT, yanks. But at least we are closer to the mint that produces a number of variety coins. Seems the Denver and San Francisco mints ran cleaner. I do remember a time, though, when finding the S mint cents here in CT were better (late 70s). S mint nickels are and have been a lot easier. The two best coins from the box were a 1983-S impaired proof and a shiny 1958-P. I don't find too many proof cents, so I'll take it. I think this is the fourth one I have ever found. Proof Cents don't seem to turn up that often. On a per coin basis, I think they turn up the least often of any denomination that I hunt regularly. Proof Dimes rarely show up either. I don't hunt Quarters enough to know if they show up... Proof Nickels are fairly common, and Proof Halves... well, y'all know that story! CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Perhaps the proof qualities in cents are more evident due to the copper, and so people identify and save them. I assume that proofs are broken out of holders and enter circulation at the same rate, so I am puzzled at the relatively high number of nickel proofs that I find compared to cents. I have found 60+ nickel proofs (including one box that had 33) but only four cent proofs. Report this Post to the Staff
