Title says it all. I assume this is environmental damage. Could it be acid? Any thoughts on what happened to this coin?

Damage from probably buried in an acidic soil, but could have been subject to some other acid bath. Environmental post mint damage. No premium.

as well, especially if it has a red hue to it like the first couple of full coin images. It seems like the copper in the core layer migrates to the surface when in the ground.

Thanks everyone for the discussion. I really like the explanation. I didn't think of it being buried at first since the coin was so clean, but it makes sense.
