Wow, you seem to have most of the coins there! My sixpence for 1912 is the most worn coin of Australia I own - this coin is not Poor, its aPoor! That florin of yours though Steve, comes close but you have a full date. I am going to THROW DOWN and say that Sixpence is the most worn and #$@!ed up coin on this whole thread! You can just tell looking at the 4 date digit, its the top of a curling 2 and the 3rd digit is a 1. The rest of 1912 is not much better, even my shilling for the year is a well below average example (Good to VG) - but then again its 1912, some 109 years ago and coins that were used constantly at least until 1946 (1966 for the Bronze) - that is 34 years of constant use in Australian heat, humidity and aridity - any coin is going to be put to its paces. The Bronze is not so bad being in that VG area. The 1912 Halfpenny is my oldest Australian Halfpenny. Fortunately my 1910 and 1911 coins are a bit better! And seriously, unless you are really cashed up or your handle is Pepactonius or Dorado - who the heck has EF or better Australian silver coins from 1912?

I am quite happy with worn coins as long as I can make out the date and mint if required. Yes, PrinceTane I think you sixpence might just take out the prize of worst coin in this thread. You have many other beautiful coins to offset it though.
Steve :)

Thanks, I do try my hardest - normally I would just ignore that type of coin and put it with the spares, but it has me in Paroxlysms of laughter. Also it is my only 1912 sixpence at the moment!
Now ze question is?
Vot do we do when get past 1910 - are we doing a year a day, a decade a day or something in between - because even though silver and bronze stop in 1910 and 1911 - we have a line of Tokens and Gold that go back to the 1850s and things like Holey dollars back to 1813?
Steve - have you opened the rest of those coins yet like that super rare AU pair of 1953 and 1961 Halfcrowns and the 1936 and 1944 EF sixpences?

Nice coins NR.
PrinceTane I have added all those new coins to my collection now and all added to my gallery. Thanks heaps. :)
As for what happens after 1910, it won't worry me, as I will have nothing to show. No gold sovereigns, no holey dollars. As British coins were used before 1910, do we start showing them?

Nice coins NumisRob, especially the Florin - wow!
I agree, I don't have anything to show before 1910 except a 1897 Jubilee medal of Victoria, a 1901 Cornwall visit token and a couple of worn Tradesmen tokens, but we showed these in the HFCWGB thread last year.
British coins before 1910, could be good - or even better a similar thread for UK coins? Either way I would be pretty good back to 1816 and have quite a lot more than last year.
It would be Halfcrown and Florin of the day for me.

Well I have to say, you both ran rings around me in 1912. For 1911 I have another crazy sixpence, but unlike the 1912 which is comedy gold - this one is tragic.
It is basically EF or better and a real stunner, except some cretin has holed it badly with a rusted drill bit around 3 o'clock, too close to the rim and damaged it severely to the point I paid melt + 10% on it.
You will see it soon.
I may also open a gallery account and put some of these coins up!

1911 was the first year of George V coinage and the first year for the Bronze coinage. W.J.H. Blakemore again designed the coins and we have a very ordinary design with a beaded border containing the words "One half penny" or "One Penny". Outside the internal border is "Commonwealth of Australia - 1911". Add a hideous scroll thing either side as its 1911 after all and Bob's yer uncle! Hardly a design classic, but it would suffice until 1937/38! My example of this design masterpiece (We can save money by just using wordart ) The rest of my 1911 includes a nice shilling (Fine and then some), a very worn 3d (Good and munted) and that tragic sixpence, notice how shiny and covered in detail it is and see that unsightly hole - so sad Sans the hole, that would be a coin worth hundreds rather than ones. Heads shot, shows a series of contrasts, the shilling and the penny are the winners here! We would have to get used to that portrait for the next 25 years

Well those rings will be getting smaller for our penultimate year, I have all of the coins except the Florin. So sad we are reaching our last year, seems just yesterday I was showing coloured $2 coins with Mr Squiggle and the Donation dollar! Update - Just won a coin guaranteed to run rings around everyone!

This might make up for a lacklustre 1910s for me! All mine - gEF and now means I have all 4 commemorative Florins in gEF or better condition 1927 - AU, 1934 - gEF, 1951 - UNC, 1954 - AU!

For a second we were worried that Florin was a fake, but I have done enough reading and taken better photos and weighing to realise its the real McCoy Now 1910 - the very first year of Australian coins, in this year they only minted the silver coins being the 3d, 6d, 1/- and 2/- (Florin). Here are my 2 shillings, we have a nice Fine to gFine one that has staining on reverse and possibly cleaned and a more honest looking and darkened gVG/aFine example. The coins all had the same obverse designed by Blakemore and it would suffice until 1936. The big difference being was that this is the only year with King Edward VII on the coins, even though he died in June, all 1910 coins had him on them (Although there were some stamps from Newfoundland that had him as King George V in 1910 along with a Union of South Africa Issue of 1910 too). So if you have a worn and munted 6d like this You can tell its a 1910 - this is bad yes, but looks like my Melbourne florin next to the 1912 montrosity In the middle is this decent VG or so 3d I don't have a Florin and 1910 Florins don't come cheap, figure $30 - $50 for VG and rapidly increasing for better. Reverses for you, notice the weird yellow staining on the better shilling, I think my seller wanted a more authentic looking coin too (As in worn and not cleaned). That ends my circulation coins of Australia. We started 112 days ago and here we are!
