2010 - Can't believe we are back a decade already - how different the world seemed with no Covid, Isis, Earthquakes or Trump! A gorgeous 2010 NZ set showing the Maui's dolphin on the $5 coin. Again this was the nice side of the year. For circulation only the $1 was actually issued. A standard EF/AU example. 2010 was another one of those only 1 coin years. Even the 10c was not issued in this year. Australia, I don't have much more (Another decade before my collection really picks up) I have the ubiquitous $2 coin and a very nice 5c and 10c coin. Well thats it until 2009

Nice NZ set, Princetane! 2010 definitive style Australian 20 cents: The highly popular (!) Tax Office 20 cents: 2010 Australia 50 cents: The Australian Tax Office 20c coin makes me wonder if anyone has ever actually used it to pay their taxes? There was an incident in England in the 1980s when the bomb squad were called to investigate a suspect package left outside a local tax office. They carried out a controlled explosion and the package was found to be from a disgruntled taxpayer - it didn't contain a bomb but contained his overdue tax, entirely in pennies. Apparently after the explosion quite a few pennies were embedded in the walls of buildings along the street...

Princetane, I visited Christchurch over 20 years ago, before the big earthquake. What a beautiful city it was. I remember going to a subterranean restaurant and having my first feed of venison. Anyway my 2010 NZ $1. Couple of coins from Aus. Australia Day 50c. Girl Guide $2 NumisRob, I have no idea why someone would want to celebrate the tax office. :) Steve :)

It's pretty bold that coin, issuing a coin about the Tax office. In NZ it would say Te Tari Taake (As Maori is on everything now due to this PC madness, we have all these angry Maori women with mokos - chin tattoos and attitude in power). They are not good as it makes the whites get resentful at the Maori.
But more funnily is that Taake looks like "take" yet pronounced in Maori sounds like "tarkey" and their motto in English is funnier - "It's our job to be fair". Interesting story about the pennies being blown up by the bomb squad. All this terrorism has led to paranoia.

2009 in New Zealand saw the issue of the 10c and 50c only in circulation (No more pretty sets from me for a while sorry ) Steve has some fairly good examples already, but here's mine These are near new, as I was not seriously collecting coins again until 2019, but started putting aside coins from change around 2012/13 and hence why these are nice. I knew I wanted to start collecting again, it was just when. Finding a nice 2009 dated 50 cents is still very easy, but most 10 cent coins will be quite dark now as my recent noodling experiment showed. The 50 cent was the second issue in this smaller format and the 10 cent being the 3rd issue since 2006. Apart from 2008 and 2010, it would be issued every year on to 2016! My Australian coins for 2009 are not as spectacular, but things are going to pick up soon I promise! Quality vs quantity here at least, only a 5 cents and $2 but both appear to be basically uncirculated. See you all tomorrow in 2008 PS Was 2009 not a s*** of a year with the recession and all, Obama was the only bright spot.

Nice coins everyone - amazing how many Australian commemoratives there are! 2009 MOR dollar: Commonwealth Pensions dollar - The Commonwealth Pensions coin appears to be very weakly struck when compared with the standard MOR dollar.

Here's a better pic of the Age Pension coin. I think most of the faces are blank on purpose. Steve :)

Steve, all your pictures are superb, how do you do it, scanning or a nice camera. I am doing all mine in 5 year batches and definitely want to improve as we get back before pocket change eras. 2008 is the year today and it was a fairly good year for both countries - NZ first. 2008 was the first issue of $1 and $2 coins since 2005 and many 2008 coins now survive with quite a lot of wear. Whereas all my 2010s coins have been AU or UNC, these are around EF at best and it gets worse. You may notice the dollar is slightly better and the detail on the heron's body is flat. The 20c have survived well and this was the second issue of this coin and had almost as many minted as the 2006 issue. Like all the steel cents coins, these mostly survive in AU to UNC condition. It was the last issue until 2014!

2008 already. I have 3 coins from NZ for this year, $2, $1 and 20c. From Aus, I'll start the ball rolling with the International Year of Planet Earth 20 cents. Steve :)

Meanwhile, I have a complete set of Australian change from 2008 sans the 50 cents. Unlike NZ, the averge condition here is AU/UNC and the $2, 20c and 10c are all particularly nice. Also a scouting $1 coin and this is probably a high AU as well. Just the front as we can already see what a 2008 obverse looks like (We have 9 more years of that IRB reverse). Tomorrow, you will see my Australian collection will jazz itself up a bit. Also once we get back before 2006, we will see the first obselete New Zealand coins no longer used!

A friend of mine has just bought over a big box full of coins and it is chocka with Australian and Kiwi stuff, it is going to make my contributions to this thread more comprehensive!
Can't wait to see how many rare dates there are, a lot of 1960s and 1970s coins of both country in near UNC condition!

2007 now, the year I met my husbear. A good year, I spoke at an archaeology conference. Good until my Mum died in October of breast cancer and my weight started its climb from 80kg to 120kg in the space of 2 years! A 2007 Australian Uncirculated set, a nice item that has the surf lifesaving 20 cents - one of those NCLT coins you could generally not get in circulation (Thats not to say a few people must have broke them out of these sets and put them in circulation). I like the design too, very streamlined and the rest of the coins are always nice in UNC mint fresh shape. I will always buy UNC sets if they either interest me, have some vital coin you can't find elsewhere like this 20 cent, or are cheap. The price I paid for this set was well below what you would have paid the mint back in 2007 Coming up are regular circulation coins of both countries. But this is a tease for you all.
