1981 Mexico $1 Peso Open/Closed 8's

Here are a couple 1981 Un Peso coins with different fonts. I'm not sure which one is more scarce. The reverse of the one with open 8 appears to be extra thick, but I don't see any doubling.

Interesting differences here!
At first, I was baffled by the 1981 20c "open 8", but now I get it...it's a stylistic convention from early colonial coinage:

Date from an 1810 8 Reale
1981-Mexico-$1-Peso-Open/Closed-8's

When this style is "modernized", it's a bit harder to see the stylistic connection. I thought it was damage at first:

Kurt, if you will remind me about this thread, in a few days, (after I get the AC adaptor for mynew camera). I'll be able to post some pictures of a few coins, with DDO, DDR and some other details. Might even post a picture of the store, (if I can find them.
