I'm not sure what happened to this coin, or why?

I am not quite sure what you are referring to but the relief was lowered and hair details were strengthened on the design in 1992. You are basically comparing two coins with different design modifications so that is why you cannot compare coins from different years- they will usually appear to be a bit different even though the main design is the same.

Ah, thanks and that explains it. I'm not savvy when it comes to the newer designs. I learn something every day.
