I posted this in another thread but probably fits better here. I have a 1923SWL with a piece of metal missing from the face. I've looked at it very closely & it's not a drill mark. It almost look like a bubble had formed or something. Have you seen this before in this or any other coin? & if so, how does it happen?
You can see where the damage went thru to the reverse above the O in DOLLAR. I think this is post mint damage that has worn smooth around it. =====================================================
Good call. I would never have noticed that in 100 years. It's so faint that you can't see it holding it in your hand. Thanks. Why didn't I think of shooting at a 1923 Walking Liberty?!
Most likely a drill, punch or some other tool - but definitely is not an error of any kind. It's damage to the coin which renders it worth its melt value in silver. Too bad.
