Not really a guess the grade thread, but I'd like to see what everyone thinks this coin should grade at. I have a heck of a time grading Columbians not in hand, so I relied on NGC's grade.

A few things that may not be, or aren't evident in the photos; luster is full, surfaces at the legends (obv and rev) are mirror-like when the light hits at a certain angle which I can't for the life of me capture in a photo, and that diagonal across the obv only shows when the light is at the angle of my flash. :/

Beautiful at first glance, but scratches in hair upper left obverse might hold this to MS-64, I'm guessing.

What the on screen pictures reveal to my eye:

Residual luster under the toning in the legends, but no sign of it over the portrait.
Lots of obvious small nicks in Columbus' hair, but fewer to be seen on the reverse.
High points of the design both sides seem to present with a tiny amount of wear, which, combined with the toning, could well explain the lack of luster on the portrait as well as the sails and globes.
Rims OK.
AU-58.

TPGraders have the advantage of in hand examination with a 10x loupe, under ideal lighting. We don't.
Still good to grade from on screen pictures, to exercise our grading skills and compare opinions anyway.

Historical aside: There are no contemporary provable authentic pictures that show what Christopher Columbus actually looked like.

The darkened areas on the high points of Columbus' hair and cheek suggest wear/metal loss; there are also rather bold cuts in Columbus' hair. My eyes, based on the images, see an AU coin.
