What the on screen pictures reveal to my eye:
Residual luster under the toning in the legends, but no sign of it over the portrait.
Lots of obvious small nicks in Columbus' hair, but fewer to be seen on the reverse.
High points of the design both sides seem to present with a tiny amount of wear, which, combined with the toning, could well explain the lack of luster on the portrait as well as the sails and globes.
Rims OK.
AU-58.
TPGraders have the advantage of in hand examination with a 10x loupe, under ideal lighting. We don't.
Still good to grade from on screen pictures, to exercise our grading skills and compare opinions anyway.

Historical aside: There are no contemporary provable authentic pictures that show what Christopher Columbus actually looked like.
