NGC - Coin of the Day: American pioneer Daniel Boone was born on Nov. 2, 1734. Boone Classic Commemorative coins celebrating the 200th anniversary of his birth were struck from 1934 to 1938 at three mints, including this 1935 example.

This coin numbers in at 16 issues, more than 10% of the classic set. (11.11%) With its unattractive fantasy obverse design and amateurish reverse, it is an impediment to the pleasant and thorough completion of the full set. Even though it contains the two lowest issue quantity coins in the set, they are relatively inexpensive and usually available in multiples. The only 'real' challenge is to obtain 3-piece sets (where issued) that have remained together, unmolested. Several dates were issued singly as well ; these are all available. The only known 3-pc 1937 matte proof set has been broken up and sold singly. I wonder how that left the Mint legally ?
