I wonder why NGC graded this coin as XF40. It looks Details (= cleaned) to me. Am I missing something?

Looks like you are using NGC's photo of the coin (can be found on their website). My findings are that NGC's pics make everything look cleaned. Must be something with the lighting. Unless you see the coin in hand, you cannot judge.

True, NGC and especially PCGS sure seems to enhance their photos. Take a look at some PCGS toned coin pics and then compared to them "In hand"

If the NGC photos are that bad then so's my opinion. However, this coin does look cleaned and even the numerical grade seems generous.
