With the end of the year drawing near, I have been reflecting on my favourite RCM coin of 2020.

Although my purchases this year were definitely fewer than in the past, the 100th Anniversary of Alex Colville 2 oz. 50 Cent coin is the one.

@Canovision8: Good choice - hard to fault a classic and beloved design!

It was very difficult for me to come up with a favorite for 2020 - most of this year's RCM releases failed to grab my attention; it was much easier last year!

I did like the Parliament coin from the $10 silver O Canada series. Its design reminds me of the 1939 commemorative silver dollar with the added element of the Centennial Flame. I also like how the flames transition to maple leaves.

Just FYI: we had a good conversation about last year's coins here: 2019 Top Five

I like both choices above but for me hands down it was the Bill Reid coins. I was disappointed in the Silver 1oz coin with it being a decal on a flat field but the gold coin ... Stunning.

I am a sucker for the 1st Nations designs and these coins were must have additions to my collection. The addition of the circulating $2 was just icing on the cake; I did get a coloured $2 in the wild recently... not sure how many will remain in circulation and how many in personal hoards.

Happy holidays!

My favourite Silver coin is 140th Anniversary of the Arctic Territories. This 2-oz Masters Club coin features many Canadian elements: northern lights, icebergs, and polar bears. The design is classic. And the gold plating made the coin more elegant.

I also have a favourite gold coin: rhodium-plated incuse gold maple leaf. I like the contrast of gold and black colours. Also, the iconic maple leaf design is timeless.

@commems, I agree the Parliament of Canada design is outstanding. However, I didn't buy this coin because it's part of a 6-coin series. And the other two designs in this series are mediocre.

@YesOrNo: Thaks for joining the conversation! Very nice selections!

The rhodium-plated gold maple leaf coin has tremendous contrast between the gold and black. It makes for a stunning look!

I believe the Parliament coin can be purchased individually from either the RCM or dealers if you continue to have interest. I like it, but I haven't gotten my wallet out yet!

@YesOrNo

Your choice reminds me of another of my favourite coins: The 2020 Maple Leaves in Motion coin.

Similar rhodium and gold combination, but on a budget!

I'm not actually a huge fan of modern RCM but I did take a liking to the pulsating maple and finally picked one up. Will be one of the very few modern coins I ever get.
