First, I am new a coin collector, my dad handed it down.
Second, this is the first time for me to join a site like this.
So please bear with me!
I have noticed what appears to be a growth on many of the red pennies.
I cannot see it by eye, I can see a little shade with 10x, and it is very noticable with the microscope.
Also it changes as I turn the coin, from very noticeable to slightly noticeable (microscope).
Should I do something about this?
Thanks for any help.

It would be good to see a picture of the coin(s) in question, and to understand how they are currently being stored.
Based on what you've said, I guess they will just look "normal" in a photo?

Yes sounds like something that would be difficult to photograph. Yet without a picture, anything would be sort of guessing.

@tsp, first welcome to CCF. Second, now that you have added a pic, can you describe what you mean by a "growth"? I'm seeing lots of tic marks from circulation, but not much else right now. Thx.

Thanks Spence, hope it is just shading or shadows.
I'm looking at the greenish area on the jaw bone and forehead, looks like moss to me. Acetone seemed to help.

Ok glad to hear that. It is pretty subtle in this pic, but I'm sure that it was clearer with the coin in hand.

Nice job on the pic. I know it took me a while to get that process figured out in the beginning.
