Somehow I think that's Medusa's head and therefore, most likely, a Greek coin. Any ideas?

I don't see a perfect match, but these Soloi bronzes are similar:https://www.acsearch.info/search.ht...usd&company=

What's the diameter of your coin?

Interesting coin - and a head-scratcher.

The reverse is very reminiscent of some issues with Europa reclining on a bull, as with this Seleucia, Cilicia Provincial reverse from a Gallienus.

That reverse figure could, however, be standing in front of the bull rather than reclining upon it, I suppose.

The obverse facing portrait is a spot-on match for Medusa obverses, with beaded borders, from Iconium, Lycaonia.

Perhaps an unpublished Iconium issue, or one we have just not come across?

It's not my collecting area, but I think we can safely assume that it is rare. The obverse match to some first century Iconium (Eikonion) issues is unmistakable, but I don't know of any with this reverse. Usually these have a seated female (Cybele) on the reverse:

Whether or not it's unique, I don't know.

Or maybe it's really the one in your second link, but with the surface smudged in the way to resemble the bull?

I think you are correct! Well done. I kept seeing a bull reverse and couldn't get away from that interpretation.

Wow, thanks. Mine is obviously not so well preserved but still a great feeling to buy a rarity for 6$ at a flea market!

A nice find @SamVimes, and a bit of a rarity too by all accounts. Congratulations.

It was indeed Bob, and I couldn't get past the image of a bull either. No amount of searching turned up a match for both sides. I can get back to my own head-scratchers now.

Thanks, @Novicius, I will raid this guy's stall once again, and hopefully come back with more rarities
