Congrats, Paul. What a nice wife!

No surprises on my end, but my wife - who is incredibly supportive and patient - has allowed me to indulge. I've got some goodies coming from various sellers.

A very nice surprise indeed, Paul. That will keep you busy for a while.

My surprises were of vintage fluid variety. My family knows me only too well.

Merry Christmas all.

Nice one Paul. While this Bedoukian wasn't a surprise for me to unwrap this morning, it was still nice to be able to start my learning process.

I really should be asking "Santa" for numismatic literature, since she is a retired library science professional.

Nice! We travelled today, so I think I have one of those under the tree for opening tomorrow morning.
Certainly won't qualify as Ancient or even Medieval, though. More like Modern World

No surprises, but I did get the go ahead from the wife to buy a reproduction of a Roman Gallic H Centurion helmet and I might sneak in a Gladius sword. Made by Deepeeka, they are historically accurate and not cheap. So I've been waiting for awhile.

..Looks to be an interesting reference book Spence, I seem to remember you have a few of these coins? Is it an area you intend to collect more in?

A bit of an eclectic mix actually, Paul. A nice vintage crusted Port to go with the Stilton, a smooth twelve year old vintage Venezuelan rum to go with the coffee, Bells (in a bell), and a Beinn Dhub (Black Mountain) Speyside single malt.

That lot will keep the cockles of my heart warm for a while.

An old navy tradition, and still enjoyed to the present date.

Always on it's own, Paul. I don't mind seeing someone chill the glass beforehand, but nothing in the glass apart from the amber nectar.

It's been on my list of potential acquisitions for some time as I do have several coins in this reference book. Then I saw it for sale in the most recent Frank Robinson auction but someone with deeper pockets overbid me so I picked up a different copy from the American Book Exchange.
