Since I got stuck with my (half) dimes, I started looking at Half Cents for my 19th century type set. Came across this specimen from "friscomint1793" (the McCawleys I believe).
Anyhow, I like the look of it (bit of orange here and there, darker devices, etc.). About VF30 I guess? Not sure if it is a Details coin due to the scratches at K-11 on the reverse.

I can see where it would detail VF...but forget about this coin with those scratches...even has some on the obverse...whoa!

I don't love it, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it in a straight VF-30 holder.

Advice would be too strong a word - it's just one man's opinion. The coin has a number of small defects, as noted, but I also think it was cleaned long ago and has now toned back to a market-acceptable state. It is one of the most common dates in the series, so there are many out there. Especially for a type set, I personally would wait for an evenly colored problem-free example.

I agree with Coinfrog's comments.
Only difference in my case is that I don't have a Half Cent in my U.S. denomination set, so I still may be tempted to buy it at the right price.
Details: An old cleaning has obtusely helped with eye appeal, scratches on rev don't help.

i think it was cleaned a while back also. along with those scratches i'd be surprised it would grade staight. a little weak on the strike. the reverse looks XF. i'd net it as VF30
