Hey all,

Im not anywhere close to being able to look at something and say yes or no its a DDO unless its CLEAR, so forgive me if this is way off.

Have this 1968-D Lincoln that appears to have the same look as this 1968-D DDO from the variety vista site

http://www.varietyvista.com/01b%20L...8DDDO001.htm

Wanted to ask the experts here what you thought as my journey to finding my first Doubled Die continues!

Sorry if pictures are out of order...

i see Die Deterioration on an otherwise normal coin...

i do not see an error (or doubled die variety)...

unless YOU see something else on your coin...

I was just comparing to the photos from the variety vista site and thought the IN GOD WE TRUST looked very similar to the DDO photos on their site.

Most likely wrong. Like I said, trying to learn the ins and outs when I can as I have a TON of Lincoln cents to go through and dont want to miss something!

Anyway, thanks....Im sure I will have many more that I think may be a Doubled Die, but those of you in the know can tell me otherwise!!

Thanks for your knowledge in looking at these....I keep seeing Die Deterioration and it gets me confused thinking possible Doubled Die.....is there a giveaway that its just die deterioratoin?

I just want to find one....that will get my juices flowing and really get me to dive into the pile of Lincolns I have. Right now, I will go through a few and then stop for a while.

Normal cent - 1968 Lincoln cents had the letters of IGWT fading up into the rim - had something to do with the worn hubs being used? - Hopefully somebody with more knowledge of the fact will provide some info.

And you probably are comparing your coin to a very minor DDO, but it probably isn't one.

I think what you are seeing is circulation flattening from a well used 50+ year old coin.

Even in uncirculated condition the letters seem flat and touching the rim......

Is that a common thing to see on 1960s - early 1970s Lincolns?

Yes it is indeed, mainly on the 1960s.

The Mint had new hubs made starting 1969 and that alleviated the problem with the letters. As you can tell even on a circulated 69 cent.
