Hi Everyone, I am a relatively new coin collector, and this is my first post in your community. Hopefully, I am in the correct forum, and my understanding of the guidelines for posting is not too far off. So, here it goes. I am hoping for a little advice on the value of a coin. I recently submitted this coin to PCGS to be graded. The results read as follows, 1970-S LD DDO FS-101 (029) Genuine - XF Details (95 - Scratch) Now, I have researched this coin extensively on the internet, in catalogs, and in books to find a comparable coin in variety and condition. I have not had any luck thus far. PCGS's coin facts do not show anything really close to my particular coin's condition. Do any of you have a range of numbers that would be fitting for this coin? I would appreciate any advice. Thank you all in advance. -Melody

That'd be difficult to ascertain. For what it's worth, I know someone who would know and who would be very interested if you were interested in moving it. I've shot him a message to see what he thinks the value is.

To Grape Collects, thank you for your response. For now, I was only seeking information regarding the value of the coin. Most likely, further down the road, I will be in search of a buyer. But, I have several days that must pass and many posts to complete before I can sell here. Thanks again. -Melody To John1, I appreciate the heads up. I had no intention of trying to sell the coin on the forum today. I only hoped to get a few opinions regarding the value. I will check out the link you provided. I do appreciate the information. Thank you. -Melody One last thing; When I read the rules before my original post, I may have misinterpreted some of the details. I want to make sure I fully understand the rules. Was my post inquiring about the value of my coin unsanctioned? And if so, should I delete it? Thanks for your help. -Melody

Trying to find assistance with determining the value of the coin is perfectly fine.
However making a trade/deal within this part of the forum is not. I didn't think you had the intentions of trying to advertise it, but once Grape chimed in John might've thought that a trade/deal was about to occur.
But in general, asking the value of your coin is fine and normal, as long as you don't go about advertising it, asking for a buyer.

Welcome Melody. Congrats on the find and jumping into the grading waters. Your thread and reply is appreciated and not out of line at all. We like seeing nice varieties. Lots of times, new members will inquire about selling a coin in subsequent replies and I think John1 was being helpful by being proactive. As mentioned, ebay "sold for" search may give you more info on the value but remember they get fees (I've heard the range is 15-20%). I've found that a "details" grade drops the value 1-2 grades, compared to if it were straight graded. Desirable varieties, especially graded, might still do pretty well.
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups. We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.

Melody What a great find! The range of numbers you were asking should be between XF40-XF45. Currently on the PCGS website the Price Guide shows a value of $650-675. Typically a "DETAILS" graded coin cuts that number in half. But there are exceptions. I think your coin is an exception because of it's very desirable variety (imho), so a premium above half is likely...how much...I guess it depends on how eager the buyer wants it...? Just a little something to think about... Good luck and look forward to other submissions on the forum! smat

Smat45 seems about right here. You can't predict the sale value of a details coin very well, but the registry collectors drop out of the bidding so the price does drop a lot. Yours is a very nice-looking coin for details grade though, and I should think it would be worth something just shy of $500.
Congrats on the find! Tis a rare one.
