Prussian Coins During The Ambassadorship Of A Future President

PCGS - There is a thought by some that collecting only United States coins is a way to explore American history. Yet United States history is intertwined with many other places around the world. As a fledgling nation, in order to survive the United States needed recognition by other countries both as allies and as trading partners for success of the country. Prussia being the 10th country to recognize the United States would play a role in United States history and with a future president.

Relations between Prussia and the United States began in 1785 with the negotiations of the Treaty of Amity and Commerce. This treaty was signed by both King Frederick the Great and George Washington, and it was negotiated by Thomas Jefferson and co-written by Benjamin Franklin and John Adams. It became an important milestone as it was the first European nation to sign a treaty with the United States following the American Revolutionary War. The main provisions included peace and friendship between the two nations, Most Favored Nation status, mutual vessels and cargo protection, allowing citizens of both nations to hold land rights in either nation, right to search for contraband, humane custody for war prisoners, and right for consuls.
