In all honesty, it pretty much kills the grade. Unless a coin is quite rare, modifications like this greatly affect its value and appeal to collectors.

Without the attachment it would probably grade VG-8.

An attached loop (or a "mount mark" where an attached loop used to be) is normally as bad as a hole drilled through the coin itself, as far as coin collectors are concerned. In this case, for a coin in this condition, it knocks the grade right down to basal state. I don't think even the popularity of Greek coins can bring the value up above bullion.

1gtsfan- There really is nothing that you can do that will fix the situation. Once a coin has been modified, the signs will always be present no matter how well it is repaired.

maybe I should get a gold chain lol. its okay I only paid for the silver, I just kinda like this coin and one without the thing is like 50 bucks.

I agree with the others. Anything permanently done to a coin after it leaves the mint is considered damage, and usually competely kills the numismatic value of the piece.
