Not an error, that is caused by environmental damage.
We see many of these on the forum.
Keep looking.

I agree, environmental tarnish/staining/chemical post mint damage. Not to worry, still worth 25 cents!

to the CCF! Keep hunting!

to the CCF!

A missing clad layer is caused by a bonding error. The outside layer separates either before or after the coin has been struck. The clad layer weighs about 1 gram and will cause the finished coin to appear weakly struck. If both clad layers were missing prior to the strike, the coin's devices would be very weak. It's also extremely rare to find both clad layers missing.

If clad layer separated after the strike, the missing side will show only a vague image of the original design.

It is possible to have a quarter rolled out of just copper, with no cupronickel clad layers, but this is almost impossibly rare and only a few clad coins struck only on the pure copper core have ever been located and certified.

Thank you all for your kind responses. I use to collect coins but I never got really into it. I use to have many sliver coins including some silver nickel buffalos. Unfortunately they were all stolen and I never knew there exact price or remember there dates but they were very old.
