Searching through my silver stash, I came across this 63D quarter with the dreaded black crud. Since I'm filling holes in a Washington album, I thought an acetone bath might help remove the crud. It appears to be about a VF 30 coin so I'm not sure it would be of great harm. Thoughts?

Won't hurt, and depending on what the crud actually is, it may help quite a bit.

After an overnight soak (and a little toothpick work), here are the results. Much of the crud is gone.

I've actually used an old "soft" toothbrush (gently) to get those tight ares around the devices.

Thanks all for the positive feedback. I'm happy with how the coin looks now. For the time being it will be a hole filler in my Washington album. There could be an upgrade at some point in the future.

I'm guessing that is how the majority of us started.
