Hello, I am a starter, I have some coins and I want to enrich my collection. Is it worth to buy bulk coins (where there might be lots of duplicates), or I should buy smaller assorted lots (like 100 pcs).

Thank you, I hope I posted in the right forum.

I would look into the possibility of buying specialist lots, for example 100 great Britain coins or 100 German coins 100 Euro coins 100 French coins etc.

It is a good suggestion and probably this is what I will do, but unfortunately it is hard to find big size lots like 100 coins/country/region. Most sellers are selling 5-10 coins/region or 100/World.

I wouldn't buy anything where the seller uses "stock" photos unless it is cheap ($5-$7 a pound), and you will get a lot of duplicates.

I've done pretty well with smaller lots (100-200) coins where you could see the actual pile of what was being sold ($10 per lb or so, more if there is older pre WWII stuff in the mix).

Overall I think you're better off buying what you want 1 or 10 at a time as it only takes a handful of dupes to bring your cost per coin to up around $1 each.

This guy is golden for such lots. http://myworld.ebay.ca/enjoytreasure/
