From my grandfather, don't know much about foreign coins except made out of aluminum.

I think VF-20. The B to the left of the axe indicates that it was minted in Beaumont-le-Roger, which makes it a less common variety (most were minted in Paris and Castelsarrasin). Value around 5-8 $ thanks to that.

Thank you for the info. Won't be sold, will have to get a decent holder for it.

Thousands, if not millions of these came home in the pockets of GIs returning home from World War II. DId your grandfather serve? 1944 France. It seems like there was something important that happened there involving America

Yeah ... I guess those GIs also had something to do with that there are no 1945 issues of these Vichy state coins

No he did not serve but I believe his younger brother may have. LOL my grandfather was too old to serve in WWII, he'd a been 40 yrs old :).
Had a 1905-A 1/2 Mk too, his brother got around if it came from him :)
Edit: Should have said My father passed away recently, assuming it was from his father to him, then my father gave it to me.

Very little wear so I'd be at EF-45. No luster remaining but still a decent coin.

These were still circulating as 1-centime coins when I lived in France in the 1970s! I'd go along with high VF to EF, shame about the small nick on the reverse rim. A nice coin though, and, as erafjel says, it's a scarcer mintmark. A French collector would probably grade this as SUP (Superbe).
