I have seen oversized coins in those slabs, but never anything that would fit in a normal slab. Must have been a custom request from someone who likes the big slabs.

good chance they have a bunch of other big coins in oversized slabs and would like to keep display and storage options consistent.

Thalers get huge (they're on the larger side of crown-sized) and I suspect the guy who did this thought it wouldn't fit into a normal slab. I would not necessarily be confident it would fit, but I don't have much experience with slabs. I'd have kept the holder; it's neat and unusual.

I have one that's almost the same size and it fits just fine in a normal sized slab.

Would not fit into most collectors' slab storage systems.

Great way to get rid of excess plastics on Earth.
