Definitely not a coin, *Australia's first coins were dated 1910. NB* Not taking into account the 1813 Holey Dollar & Dump.

This is most likely a commemorative Medal for Queen Victoria's 60th Anniversary.This looks like a possible match: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/OLD-AUS...AOSwOhuh-rVI

There were over a hundred different diamond jubilee medals issued in 1897. Just about every city, town and shire in the colonies issued one. Some were made in England and brought out there in bulk , others were produced by local manufacturers. Those that were issued in the name of specific small towns can be quite valuable, the generic ones are quite cheap to obtain even in excellent condition.
