Admittedly, attractively toned PD's are uncommon. Still, the BIN for this one raised my eyebrows. On my watch list to see if there are any takers.

I love the rainbow effect around the eagle. The obverse is hideous IMO.
$3700 seems rather LOL regardless. A basic MS63 1924 is about a 45-50 coin? So seller wants a 74x markup for this toning? yikes.

Pretty, pretty sad, as Larry David would say.

I'm surprised NGC gave this one a straight grade. That obverse toning is terminal state and what I consider environmental damage. Also, it is an AU58 coin at best.

I was thinking lower than 63, myself, but, given there are only two photos and they're not that clear, I'll give NGC the benefit of the doubt. (This came up in another thread as well. Evidently some folks feel that NGC is not as good at grading as PCGS. I'd love it if someone would start a thread lining up slabs by both and explaining how the two graders compared.)

I think value around 1.2k is actually appropriate.

If I recall correctly, way back ebay used to charge a listing fee based on the opening price. Items like this make me wish they still did it, and maybe even raise the listing fee.

The other day I noticed that my spoon collection was starting to take on an appearance like this coin. It was time to get out the polish again. They're bright and shiny again, looking like sterling is supposed to look. Every year or so they need it.
I've never understood the appeal of coin toning. What is ugly on the table is supposed to be beautiful on a coin. Silver coins were always grey pieces of metal when we used them for their intended purpose, not works of art. For me this coin is distingushed for having a much flatter strike than most 1924's.
Make them an offer of $100 grapecollects. But don't be surprised if they accept it.

Not a monster rainbow toner. Instead, most probably placed on a piece of chlorinated paper in a humid climate, and just left in the sun for a few days. Horrible eye appeal on the obverse, would bring it down to book value MS-60 price for me. A rather dishonest way of scamming a lot of money off an inexperienced collector. ebay would still pass it - it is still a genuine coin, just asking a dishonest price. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The slab grading is what it is. Without grading it for myself I will just accept the 63, but not a 63 price.

Meanwhile, the seller is getting excited seeing they have received so many views on this coin Ugly, at best!
