Madison Avenue have nothing on Coin Dealers when it comes to marketing. Personally, I enjoy the hype and think it adds to our hobby. What am I writing about? It's those Lincolns with names like "Godless Cent"; "Lincoln's Goiter"; "Lincoln Cracked Skull"; "San Jose Cent"; and "Cross of Lorraine".
Please write your favorite and add it's description .
Also, does anyone have information or ever heard of the 1944 cent called the Cross of Lorraine?
I vaguely remember seeing one on ebay or somewhere else that was titled "Assassination Penny" or something like that. It had a die crack that somehow looked like a gun firing a bullet at the back of Lincoln's head.
My brother-in-law has a "cracked skull" Lincoln Cent. It is pretty cool but I find most of the names kind of stupid. I guess from a marketing standpoint it makes sense, like to be more descriptive for new collectors, but in the long run it takes away from the accuracy of describing coin anamolies.

If I'm not mistaken the 179th Infantry Division Patch Designation was the Cross of Lorraine. If you find any 1944 pennies with 179 scribed in it or a cross with two horizontal slashes you may have the answer. nlp
There's a Wheat cent from the 1950s (don't remember the exact date) that has a very odd die gouge somewhere near the top of the design that looks something like a comet. It's called the comet cent. I never found one, and would someday like to get one of those just for old time sake.
I have a 1965 cent that has a die gouge under Liberty that looks like a feather...so I call it my feather cent. It's not a recognized, named 'variety' but I like it nonetheless.
