I'm just curious about the cause of the details I have marked in red.   #1 I think the blob on his back is a retained die chip but what about the rest? #2 On the hand is simply a raised area between his fingers that I have no understanding of. #3 The container has a smooth lump that could be a chip or something else, please feel free to confirm.  #4 lastly I don't know why the letters on cumberland gap are shaped indented at the top the way they are.  I have included a photo of a normal quarter for comparison  I like to learn so the help would be appreciated. |

Couple die chips and the hand looks normal. The lettering is some minor Machine Doubling. It just looks odd on incused lettering |

It is as if the die was warped on the letters if that makes any sense. As for the hand l will have to believe you because I don't have a scope just a week loop

Note all the affected areas are towards the rim. It was like the edge of those devices broke off because of die aging. They happen a lot, but they are continued to be used for a larger die event happens before it is retired.

So, the hand, not enough evidence to say one way or the other.
The device behind the powderhorn that no one commented on is of interest. Broken die? I think it is cool and would definetly put it in a 2x2 and keep it.

Call me infatuated about it but I end up keeping almost 90% of my change for months or more before I am comfortable about spending it.
I tend to ask about the value of my coins but I have never tried to sell any of them. I don't know why I just enjoy looking at them.
I have even made my own little die crack-chip progression collection.

Thats called "The Bug". I think we all have it..lol Its incurable. Itll come and go, sometimes for years, but stays in your system..  As for the die chip progression, Ive been doing that for years now. Not an easy task. Plus, I'm picky on the quality of the coin so I can get nice pics. |
