Hello I have a 1972 penny looks like one of the columns is busted on the reverse is this just environmental any info would be appreciated

Hard to tell with that picture. Need something more in focus.
At this point I would say that the reverse took a hit causing circulation damage. So PMD.

I would say the column is PMD,and the whole coin is showing PMD in areas.
