Hi there - I am super new to this site and I need some help please if anyone out there can help.
I have a 2007 canada toonie twoonie or $2.00 coin that is error struck and completely silver in color. Not the 2-tone colors normally seen with normal twoonies - so the Queen and polar bear are also silver - I am having problems uploading the photo but if anyone can help me or tell me if this is a rare coin or if this is the new look of the Canadian twoonie thanks Jennifer

Interesting... proof silver twoonies with a gold plated centre were produced for 2007 by the mint. Did someone ruin it by cleaning and cleaning off the plating? Can you see swirl marks on it under a magnifier? If it is silver it won't be attracted by a magnet, then I'd suspect that's what you have. I'll take another look, but I am unaware of a solid silver coloured twoonie. To post pictures, you hafta host them at another site... like photobucket or somesuch place. Then copy and paste the img tag of the photo into the post... the photo will appear in the post preview to check if it works in the reply.

Outside of a proof twoonie, there's another option to that one....

The other option I can think of is someone's electro-plated the entire coin with a silvery metal; you wouldn't notice the plating on the ring, because it's the same colour that it normally is. Hi again and thanks for your input - I think the toonie is made of nickel - I had emailed a coin store earlier and they said that this coin is "error-struck" - I will try to upload photos thanks again

Did the RCM stamp out a $2 planchet from stock meant for another denomination? There are $2 counterfeits circulating, but this seems to be a different creature. I hope to get pics to post. In the meantime, if you could weigh the coin, that would be a great help too.

Thanks, read it again... now I remember why I used 3rd party... All of my images contain "$" ! 3rd party also removes "smacks of effort" thoughts. ... back on topic... But what about the magnet thing. A wrong struck planchette would be way cool, but I don't think any other Canadian coins would fit the bill(< I make joke!) , but the RCM makes coinage for other countries. Picture=good. Hey, pretty soon I'll be able to buy stuff here, and I been looking

Thanks for the pics jmcgowan! It doesn't look bimetal to me. I did some processing to bring out detail. 7.9gr...interesting! The normal weight is 7.3gr, which is dependent on scale accuracy. The weight you have seems a bit light to be a silver coin, which is 8.8gr.

Quote: Hey IBGolden what does "wrong struck planchette" mean? It means that it's struck on the blank metal that is supposed to be for another coin (like a half dollar)

Hi wd1040 - so the toonie is an error - does this make this coin a rare or scare item then? and should it be that - how would I go about getting it appraised thanks

If the coin is a true error, it would be a scarce item. Errors are one-of-a-kind items and they are hard to price. Especially with the economic downturn in mind. If you are selling it today, I can say you would be getting less for it compared to a few months ago. You can submit your coin to ICCS or CCCS to have the coin comfirmed as an error.

Quote: You can submit your coin to ICCS or CCCS to have the coin comfirmed as an error. IMHO, you should send it to a third-party dealer to get it graded and authenticated. As for a price... as of now I would drop about 200 - 400 for it.
