Why 2 Different Designs On 1852 Quebec One And Half Penny?

Bond632 Valued Member Canada 98 Posts	Posted 01/21/2021 3:32 pm Seeing that the pantograph has been around since 1788 and that most mints would have had one by 1852, I find it curious that the one penny and the half penny Quebec bank tokens for 1852 are of two similar, but different designs. One would think that they would use the exact same design for both. Would anyone happen to know the reason behind this? Report this Post to the Staff

Wade Pillar of the Community Canada 2781 Posts	Posted 01/21/2021 9:21 pm not sure what you mean, both have nearly identical designs. and carving dies nearly 170 years ago will lead to some small deviations (compared to today's production methods). what "differences" do you see? I think the design :idea" is the same, showing, essentially, the same theme, but 2 different people/groups designed/made the masters. Both masters were made from scratch, so there will be differences. Just comparing the distance/rotation of the lettering with regard to the main design element shows you many differences. But that shouldn't be the case for these tokens, One would think that they should both be exactly identical, coming from a reduction lathe, from the same galvano. Report this Post to the Staff

Akin to the St. Georges, the mantle of the ONE PENNY shews seven pleats while the ONE HALF PENNY shews only five.
