A member of my congregation very sweetly gave me his Whitman cent folders, which he worked on in the early 1960s when he was a boy. Most of the old Wheaties appear to have been dutifully cleaned by him when he was young.
He also gave me his 1964 copy of the Yeoman "Handbook of United States coins", the "blue book".
I had fun looking through it and am sharing a few pages with you from when an Uncirculated 1893-S Morgan silver dollar listed for $500 and a proof 1895 for $1,000. A proof Gobrecht dollar came in at $900 and a VF 1795 Silver Dollar was pegged at $150.
Too bad I was eight years old and broke back in 1964.
