Full Bands V. Full Torch - Coin Community Forum

Diy89Nurm7 Valued Member United States 271 Posts	Posted 01/24/2021 12:58 pm Greetings. I see that PCGS and NGC do not agree on criteria for what constitutes a highly valuable Roosevelt dime reverse. I am curious whether this is an issue except for where to send a coin to be graded to get the higher value? Has this discrepancy been a problem for anyone? Your advice is appreciated. Is this difference importance, except for where to send coins for grading? The values of FT and FB seem to be similar across most dimes. Report this Post to the Staff

You are correct, the NGC terminology is "Full Torch" because they expect the bands to be clearly separated and for the lines of the torch to be distinguishable. PCGS's "Full Bands" applies only to the bands, and not the torch body. As such, NGC's is more stringent, but ultimately, if your coin looks to be FT, it will be FB, but there's a chance that if it looks FB it still may not be FT. If values are similar as you say, the difference comes down to preference of company because ultimately what FT and FB are telling you is the same thing: a good strike Report this Post to the Staff
