Story time...

I've been looking for the elusive 1969-D for years. Been through hundreds of BU rolls and thousands of coins from that year in rolls and whatnot. Never could find one.

A goodly while ago Tanman found one, and posted it on CCF. It can be found buried in this post.

He was amicable to a trade, but we were in no hurry and he wanted to keep the coin for his research for a while. Well, just about a week ago I got a package from him and tucked in there was the 1969-D DDO-001. Huge thanks! I have agreed to send along some nice trade coins for it.

I've been fairly busy lately, and hadn't even taken it out of his holder yet to photograph it, when I got the bright idea that I should check the last 4 rolls of 1969-D I got in. I bought four trays of BU rolls a couple weeks ago and hadn't got to those yet as with 400 rolls to play with they just weren't the first things I checked.

Last night I checked those rolls, and much to my surprise, in one was not one, but two DDO-001 coins. Wow. When it rains it pours, and it's been raining here lately.

So Tanman will get his coin back for his collection, but I will still send along the trade coins as he deserves them for being so kind as to give up a rare die to help me complete my collection. I owe him that.

And if you actually read all that, then here is the better of the two I found in the roll. Another one off the list of DDO-001 coins I need to complete the set.

Congratulations! I know this has been quite a difficult variety to find, especially for you. I'm glad you finally found one, and in this case, two! Very nice coins and nice of Tanman to help you out!

Thanks all! And Tanman I would say your timing is perfect. There is some saying about "you'll find one as soon as you buy one" so I'm thinking this is some kind of corollary to that. It couldn't have happened unless your coin had arrived, so perfect indeed.
