With the rare coin market on fire, I wonder if we will see new highs set for "the most expensive coin" ever this year.
The Brasher Dubloon auction earlier this year set a solid second place at $9+ million just below the 1794 Flowing Hair dollar at $10 million.
Any candidates you can think of that will fetch $11+ million?

I guess my first choice would be the 1804 class I silver dollar, the highest grade one.

Many dealers, myself included, would say the 1907 $20 J-1775/1905 Pattern Proof Indian Head Double Eagle. Some dealers estimate around a $13 million price tag, others as much as $23 million. I fall a bit towards the middle at $16m.

What would the 1933 $20 go for if the (legal) one were ever sold?

Australian 1 ton gold coin 2012, value at Market of 78million AUD or about 59million USD at time of posting. Face value 1 million but yeah.

1933 double eagle would be most expensive as I think it sold for 20million with 10million going to the US government.

Not even close , the 1933 Fenton Double Eagle
Sale price $ 7,590,020 USD !
Split 50/50 with the US Government ,
Since our American cousins Love a huge show , the 20
Dollars was a big show of the signing ceremony of
US Treasury monetizing the Coin.
A good read Alison Frankels book on The Double Eagle .
Also you can watch on YouTube the original sale .
If the coin sold today in this market 15 to 17 million
would not surprise!
One thing is for sure Better coins are bringing very good prices these
Days in all parts of the market . More and more individuals are looking
at investment alternatives .
