Hello, I am researching this coin for a friend of mine who inherited it from his father. Any help would be very appreciated.
Thanks Drew

Hello and to the Forum!

With the wear on the face, necklace and edge of the hair, I'd grade this as VG, possibly Fine by US standards. A nice honestly circulated coin with an attractive circulation cameo and no serious damage.

I concur with Rob's grading, UK VG to Fine.
The edge inscription will include LXII or LXIII (62 or 63) and these refer to the regnal year, so LXII for the first half of 1899, LXIII for the second. In low grades there is no difference in value between the two.

Thank you for the responses. This coin is LXII. Is there a market for this coin? My friend isn't exactly Tech savvy and I might suggest going to a dealer to him. He won't have the patience for ebay etc.

In this condition the value is tied largely to the value of the silver content. They seem to be selling for between £20 and £30 on ebay right now.
Most coin dealers buy pre-1920 silver coins, typically paying around 85% or so of the value of the silver: one dealer I've just checked online is currently offering 51p per gram of silver. A crown weighs 28.267 grammes.

There is always a market for Silver Crowns, but in that condition the OP coin won't make a fortune.
Silver value of it is around £16 at the moment, and a dealer would probably give you that for it. I part time deal and sell at markets - I would expect to price that one at £25 and sell for anything over the £20 mark.
