I've been ready to close my silver position since 2013 when I went upside down. I will keep my nice coins but plan to clear out all bullion. The question is should I go to a smelter @ -8% spot or sell to JMBullion APMEX ect....

I don't claim my crystal ball works better than anyone else's, but I have seen silver coin auction prices climbing in the past 2 months, even on lower value coins in bulk. I sold a large mixed lot of silver dimes recently for much more than melt. There's even a spike in no date ones, too. So, you might be able to get a better price online if all the extra work is worth it, that is!

The more work you put in the more you get paid generally. If you sell them here you will likely do best. Any collector to collector sale is going to be best. Probably here, then local coin club / Craigslist would net you the most. ebay is simple but you will lose like 13% or so there so 8% at the smelter sounds better unless you can get more than 5% + your time above melt on ebay.

Seems a lot of the major online silver retailers are out of stock on most silver bullion items...JM Bullion, Provident Metals, etc.

On this case "out of stock" may just mean that they are waiting for the markets to reopen to see how they should price it.

What exactly do you have? I sell silver locally and I get much more than melt -8%.

When silver ran up to $50/oz years ago, I had a hard time finding a channel to sell off the bullion. This is a different dynamic, it's been known that paper silver supply far exceeds physical supply, but this imbalance had not been exploited....if this lever is pulled things may go nuts.

I'm seeing several sell offers of $100/oz. ea. for .999 rounds on Craigslist.

What I see in the marketplace is great interest in silver stocks but not so much action by mining companies to increase production. So, the run up this week seems to be with stock prices and physical silver already out there. That could mean a "sugar high" like we saw about 8-10 years ago before the price settled to the mid teens where it belonged. If mining / smelting / molding operations are flat then prices should stay inflated because supply will not increase proportionately. Junk silver prices are up a bit, too.
Interesting times and probably good for sellers in the short run.
For what it's worth.

You may laugh, but try buying any pre-65 for less than 28x.

So, what is the best way for a seller to advantage of this crazy market with pre-65 USA 90% silver to sell?
I have maybe $40 face of such coins that I would readily sell at current prices - if there were a ready market for actual 90% silver coins.
28x would do it for me for sure.
Thoughts?
