I have a few coins that I cannot seem to find any information on. First of all I have a coin that is both gold and silver. One side has a double eagle on it with the words DOUBLE EAGLE COMMEMORATIVE BICENTENIAL CELEBRATION. And on the other side it has a picture of the constitution and the words read THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION 200TH ANNIVERSARY and below the picture of the constitution it says september 17th 1987. The next coin has the double eagle on the front and reads the words NATIONAL HISTORIC MINT DOUBLE EAGLE COMMEMORATIVE and on the back it has a picture of the liberty bell and the words read THE LIBERTY BELL OFFICIAL COMMEMORATIVE ISSUE. I have been unable to find any information on these could you please help me find out something about these coins and maybe even a value. They also come in a blue velvet case which holds five of the six coins that I have. Thank you all.

Jack,

Welcome to our little forum. I wish I had better news about your commemoratives, but I don't. They are private issues (not in any way affiliated with the U.S. Mint). If the commem is gold colored, it is "layered" and has no appreciable gold content. I would guess they would be worth about what was paid for them ... I think they were offered in the mid-80's for about $5 each.

If considering future purchases as an investment, steer clear of the private issues. The numismatic community has great disdain for these. But there are some that are well done and look great. If you want one of these for your personal enjoyment, by all means get one.

I have found a set of four 100th ann of birth of Franklin Delano Roosevelt First Day Issue 999.9 fineness Silver Dollars. Apparently my father purchased the set from an add in Fleet Reserve magazine. I know about your answers regarding private issues, I'd just like some info about these. They are in plastic sleeves, in an envelope post marked GPO Roseau, Dominica with a comerative stamp (.60) apparently issued out of Dominica May 1st 1982. Any help would be Greatly appreciated
