So I purchased these coins at an auction and I'm not entirely sure how to feel about this. My 1936 Buffalo nickel clearly has three feathers right, but my 1929 S Buffalo nickel seems to slightly have a mark right underneath the longest feather where the third one should be, if you look real close ... the coin is in great shape and it has me left wondering, is that normal?

I also purchased a few Indian Head cents and this silver one came along with the bunch. I tried researching it but couldn't find a single post where someone had a similar cent. Looks like someone before me took it to the ground and grounded some of the edge off and it seems to still be of a silver tone where they did. Is this normal for this year? Or am I missing something? Thank you for reading and thank you if you answer :)

to CCF. The 29 looks like an over polished die issue. The IH looks like it was plated, or coated with mercury.

Agreed, plated IHC of sorts. In the future, posting an accurate weight can also help eliminate error possibilities.

The Buffalo Ni is an over polished die as John1 pointed out. This is also what leads to the 2 feather variety. The 3rd feather is still visible on yours, therefore not a 2 feather. A true 2 feather would have been over polished to the point of no visible 3rd feather.

And just in case the IHC is coated with mercury, DO NOT HANDLE IT.
Mercury is highly toxic and can be absorbed through the skin.

@kanga, looks like chromium to me - no 'ethereal' appearance like an oil spill.
