Hello to everyone, I would like to ask you, if this coin is real or fake. Size and weight is OK. I have bought it on czech auction portal for good price. Thanks for your help. Edited by kesybz 02/01/2021 1:49 pm

Blurry pics, but from what I can see.... Fake. Raised bumps on the obverse are a good giveaway, MM is also incorrect ( from what I can make out). Obverse devices look poorly done across the board as well. Sorry.

Weight won't make a difference even if bang on. It is a counterfeit. Hope you didn't pay too much.

Thanks for your replies. You confirmed my feeling. I bought 3 barber dollars in combination with 3 Morgan dollars. Morgan dollars are definitely OK (not rare dates), but other 2 Barber half dollars will be also fakes. I am now sure about it. No, I didnt pay much but I will contact seller.

to the CCF. Quote: Fridge magnet ! The magnet test is often the most expedient way to cull these counterfeits.

@kesybz, if the Morgan's are from the same seller you may want to post them as well to confirm authenticity. Common dates are faked as well, though not as much as key dates.

Quote: Common dates are faked as well, though not as much as key dates. Very true. About a year or two, an ebay seller in eastern Europe was peddling some 40 counterfeit, U.S.Civil War tokens, most of which were common varieties. IMHO, it's good to be suspicious of U.S. "coins" being sold overseas.

OK, there is one morgan 1886 P for verification.Size and weight are OK. Its not magnetic. I also own metal detector Minelab equinox 600 and it gives ID 37. Thats the right ID for Morgan dollar. :)

@kesybz .... Is the Barber Half, the subject piece, attracted to a magnet?
