I recently came across an odd 1982 quarter in my pocket change. It felt lighter than other quarters, and the appearance looks different. I weighed the quarter and it weighs 5.4grams less than 5.7. Is there any information about this quarter variety? Please see attached.

It does look like it has been ground on both sides.
On the Obverse the highpoints and rims are missing and
on the Reverse, the Eagles breast feathers are missing.
Possibly enough material was removed along with a tolerance
of .195 to make the difference.

Plus, it's still very close to be within Mint tolerance.

p.s.- It's never a good idea to hold coins between your fingers like that. If you did have something of note, fingerprints destroy numismatic value. Just fyi.

to the CCF!

Yes, metal lost due to the abraded edge and lost high points can account for the weight reduction.
