The coin scratches you are seeing are not die scratches. A die scratch will be raised. A coin scratch will be incuse. Incuse scratches on incuse devices will appear like it flows behind the devices. Which is not the case. Unless they are real deep, you won't note that they are that deep:

Note only the deepest area shows the mark as being incuse. Where it was not so deep, then the mark appears as flowing behind the devices?
