Last week I purchased from Limited Mintage a 2 oz round of a tribute to the 1873-CC Trade dollar (apparently made by the Intaglio Mint). I'd like to learn more about their products from forum members. I bought this for the artwork, and not as a primary goal to make money from rises in bullion prices. The premium charged was very modest (only about $10 or so total for 2 oz. silver, plus shipping).
1. Since silver prices are going crazy, it seems like Limited Mintage is out of stock, just as the four resellers I've found - APMEX, JM Bullion, SD Bullion, and Provident Metals. When times are "normal", it seems like Limited Mintage would be the place to buy the ones that appeal to me. Is that correct? What other place(s) do you experienced Forum members suggest for wide availability and fair pricing?
2. What is the "handsomest" way to house these 2 oz rounds (39 mm, 6mm thick)?
3. How about nice displays? Any suggestions?
4. Will PCGS put these in holders, as a method of display? If so, which grading tier would it be (value is about $68)? Would it require $20 extra for an Oversized Holder due to the 6mm thickness?
5. Any other tips would be greatly appreciated, as this aspect of the hobby is brand new to me (I'm very experienced with Classic U.S. numismatics, having put together several very high ranking PCGS Registry Sets, but as noted, I know nothing about bullion of this type). Again, I'm looking to purchase more of these purely for the artistic designs, and not as a goal of making money.

Thanks.
Here's the one I bought last week:

I'm a big fan and have been following them for a while. They make extremely high quality reproductions as well as original designs in several sizes.
Since their pieces are rather thick, I buy directly from them as they package them extremely well in a flip, which comes in a cardboard holder. Paying the shipping fee with them is completely worth it. I've also bought their items from other companies, who ship them in mylar sleeves that crack easily en route due to the large size. I've also signed up for rounds that are not currently available (wait-list) and they will send out emails with availability updates. I believe they wait until they have enough orders and then send out emails for purchase.
The companies are basically the same (Limited Mintage and Intaglio), but Intalgio temporarily shut down retail sales from the original Intaglio Mint site during the tax on bullion issue that came up a couple of years ago. Then they re-opened as Limited Mintage with sales to the public.
I store mine in air-tites, ring type, the variety with extra depth, although there are no precise fits.
Their antiqued varieties are also worth the extra money as they're extremely well-done.
They had a Trump series, which was really awesome, with Trump as a Roman emperor, complete with laurel leaves as well as Qanon designs, but they've pulled these from the site! You can still see the Trump Series listed in their drop-down menu, but it leads to nowhere.
I highly recommend their Morgan, Peace and Panama Pacific designs.

Thanks so VERY much, captainmadrake1. VERY useful information. Yes, a few nights ago I signed up on LimitedMintage's wait list for about 20 of their issues. I bought some President Trump US Mint Presidential medals (two 3", and ten 1-5/16 inch) BEFORE the mint jacked up their prices.

Collecting artistic bullion has become a very popular pursuit among today's collectors; I believe many collectors like the fact that they can (usually) be purchased for only a small advance over their intrinsic value. The sheer number of different designs being released by national mints and private mints across the world makes the increased popularity very apparent - supply is doing its best to keep up with demand!

I agree that pieces like the one you have shown are difficult to formally classify. I attended a meeting of the Silver Art Collectors group a few years back and asked this question there - no clear answer was forthcoming. Even those deeply involved in the collecting of these pieces appear to have difficulty with separating "rounds" from "medals" - bullion coins such as American Eagles and Canadian Maple Leafs are not an issue.

As jbuck noted, I think your intent for the showing the piece is the driver for where it is placed here on CCF. I collect selected silver pieces (mostly one-ounce) and have been wondering myself about the best place to post write-ups on them. They are all from the 1980s and I am planning to include a "story" about each piece/series vs. just posting pictures of them. So, I wonder if they will be better served in the medals/exonumia area or the bullion area? I do think they will get more exposure in the bullion forum as it appears to get more traffic, but which audience will be more receptive to the history behind the pieces?

Moving your post here to the bullion section was a good move, it appears to have gained a little traction. I hope you are fortunate enough to get the "Wait List" items you selected! Limited Mintage/Intaglio Mint does appear to put out a very high-quality product with faithful reproduction of original coin/medal designs (when that is its intent).

Thank you Commems for your well written, well thought out comments. As it turns out, late last night APMEX, one of the resellers I mentioned above, had six of my 20 waitlist items in stock (I was alerted to this by the APMEX "Alerts" I had recently set up, as APMEX had been cleaned out of stock as well). I had to pay about $8.50 per ounce over spot for each 2 oz piece ($17 over spot for the 2 oz Round) but the shipping was "free". I would have preferred buying from Limited Mintage, but there's no telling how long that wait would be.

I guarantee that any post like this you make in T/M/E will get the traffic.
